MISE-EN-SCENE

Mise-en-scene is basically anything that you see in the frame. This can be anything from things that make the scene look more realistic to character representation by the way they look and what they wear.

For example, Arnold Schwarenegger in Terminator is a great example of a conventional action hero. Although he isn't the best looking guy, he does have massive muscles, which makes him look powerful. He wears a big leather jacket and shades in the movies, which moviegoers would think that he looks cool wearing what he is wearing.
